If you're filing a 1040, the total cost is $1895. We reduce the fee by 10% if you provide 5 referrals. Costs increase if parent/caregivers are business owners as the financial aspect is more complex.
Some families prefer this approach and just want the paperwork off of their plates. We can assist with Forms Filing, and the fee in 2024 is $500 (subject to change).
Ideally, you began planning in the early years of your child's life. We can assist at this stage with the financial planning. However, most families we meet with have children in high school already. The earlier in your student's highschool years that we can get started, the better. This is due to the fact that the FAFSA uses prior-prior year tax returns - meaning when your child applies financial aid in the fall of their senior year, you will use the tax returns from 2 years prior. Any financial positioning needs to take place prior to those returns.
Any planner you meet with holds a college planning certification. In addition to that, we're all fiduciaries, meaning, we are required to act in the best interest of you when it comes to any financial advice your recieve.
We've had families making $500k per year whose students receive a significant amount of merit aid. Proper positioning and school selection can help achieve similar results. We suggest booking a 1st meeting with a planner on our team to learn how and if we can help.
At EFS, we recommend not exceeding $8k per year in loans, or $32,000 total.
